Accountability – Do you love to read but just don’t seem to make the time? Being a member of a book club gives you the accountability you need and motivational deadlines! Perfect for all of us procrastinators.
New Genres – We all get in a rut, don’t we? Same genre, same author, same storyline. In many book clubs, members take turns choosing books which brings variety and fun to reading. I recently finished a book out of my “normal go-to genre” and thought to myself, I’m so glad I read this book!
Relationships – You may be looking for a new avenue to develop friendships with others. A book club brings people together that share the love of reading. If you’re looking to meet new people, a book club might be great for you.
A Welcome Diversion From…Everything? – When you meet with the members of your book club, you’ll engage in thoughtful discussions that are intellectually stimulating. You might chat about the characters in the book, the take-away themes, and the emotional impact the story had on you. Time spent with
your book club will be a welcome break from thinking about work, chores, and all the other things that are waiting for you back home.
Self-care – It’s true. Most of our lives are taken up by doing for others – work, family, pets, church, home. Joining a book club is something that is just for you, and you get to do it along with your like- minded friends. You deserve to be a part of a community of people who share your passion and want to have some fun.
Already in a book club? Consider reading books by new authors and reaching out to them to see if they would join your group via Zoom or in-person for a Q&A with the author. You’d be surprised how many would be happy to do so. (It’s one of my favorite things to do!)
